Get more from ‘Optical Extras’
Health fund cover is divided into ‘hospital’ and ‘extras’. Extras cover is used to claim on non-hospital services like optical or dental.
How and when can I claim?
The claim can be processed on your behalf in-store with an eligible health fund card. The amount you can claim varies depending on the health fund you are with and your level of cover.
Claims can be made any time of year, within your claim-period, up to your maximum benefit for extras like optical.
How long do my ‘benefits' last?
This “benefit” or “rebate” will also have an expiry, where the unused benefits are forfeited if left unclaimed at the end of the designated time period. These cycles are usually each calendar year or each financial year (or in some cases, from your join date).
What does ‘no gap’ mean, is it something I can get at Oscar Wylee?
'No-gap' refers to not having to pay any out of pocket expense due to the health fund benefit covering the entire price of the eyewear. Depending on your health fund and level of cover, more complex prescriptions and lens enhancements may result in an out of pocket ‘gap’ to pay. At Oscar Wylee, our team wants to make sure you get the most value out of your optical extras so please feel free to ask for any helpful tips.
How can I find out how much I can claim from optical extras?
At Oscar Wylee, our teams can swipe your health fund card on a HICAPS terminal and process a quote for your favourite frames and lenses. This will show the claim amounts for the optical extras that you are entitled to.
Can I claim my glasses with my health fund?
Yes, if your health insurance extras packages include benefits for optical. You’ll need a prescription from an optometrist to make a claim on prescription glasses.
Your level of cover and which health fund you’re with will determine how much of a benefit you are eligible for. You may be eligible to claim two prescription glasses complete with standard single vision lenses, for no gap. If you’re unsure about what you can claim, simply visit one of our stores and our team will help explain what you’re covered for and find out how much you can claim from your health insurer.
Can I claim sunglasses with my health fund?
You can claim prescription sunglasses just like claiming for prescription glasses. You’ll need a prescription from an optometrist to make a claim on prescription sunglasses.
You cannot claim non-prescription sunglasses.
